The locals make a living out of tourism mostly: many people come to visit this wonderful town. Some just want to relax and take a boat to the lake, some of them are more extreme and want to go for a trip into the desert, or try out sandboarding. The town can offer programs for everyone.
The Peruvians believe that the lake’s water has healing powers. That’s why the wealthy citizens from all around the country have been traveling to this lake for decades now.
There’s a legend that tells the story of how this landscape came to be: “an Incan princess was spied upon by a young hunter while bathing in the lake. When she fled, the pool of water became the lagoon, and the sand dunes were created as she fled and the folds of her hair streamed behind her.”
